NYC for the Day!

On Sunday I spent the day in NYC. I learned lots of new techniques and freshened up on some classic cutting with a Vidal Sassoon Icon, Tim Hartley.
Tim introduced his new collection, Infinite Variety. Spending the day with him and the Davines team was such an inspiration. To be around such talented people in the industry was quite the experience. I think the most important lesson I learned about the hair industry is that you never stop learning! We as stylist take the old and reinvent it in our own way. We turn to different era's in history for inspiration. We look to fashion icons, and trends of the time to create something new and different to keep current and changing. After leaving the city on Sunday I felt energized and refreshed. I also realized that my job is really important! We all want to feel good about ourselves and I, as a stylist, help people do that everyday.

Thanks to the Capelli Shop for giving me the opportunity to attend the class and my model Mallory. Here are some pictures of my work. Mallory before and after!

Upcoming Events

TIM HARTLEY!!!!! A Vidal Sassoon icon is teaching a class on Sunday May 16th in NYC and I am lucky enough to be attending. The Capelli Shop, the salon I now call home, is a Davines exclusive salon. Joey Festa and Matt Dibartola, the owners of the boutique salon, are always looking for the newest styles to create. The salon is innovative and an exciting place to be. I am looking forward to bringing back new techniques to share with the guys and trying them out on my clients!

Inspirations

A stylist has a vision. When we look at a person's hair not only do we take the texture, thickness, and face shape into consideration but we have to be inspired. Admittedly finding the inspiration everyday is not the easiest task. So, we look to subjects such as architecture, clothing, sculpture, paintings and even nature itself for the inspiration. The color combination's, angles of the lines, and the fluidity of these structures help create the basis for many haircuts.

Believe it or not, when you walk into a salon your clothing, down to the shoes you are wearing could determine the outcome of your hairstyle! We also take into consideration the time and maintenance you spend doing your hair everyday and what works with your lifestyle.

So the next time you walk into your salon mention some of the above. Maybe it will help your stylist create a beautiful hair do for you.
