BootCamp Color
The last two days I've spent learning the ins and outs of The Capelli Shop's new colorline, Lakme. I'm loving the results. The color leaves the hair super shiny and healthy looking. For clients who don't use permanent color and just want some extra shine for healthy looking hair the gloss's are amazing. Check out the results on my model....

Fingerwaves
Mallory's makeup was inspired by Twiggy, the face of '66. http://www.twiggylawson.co.uk/biography.html Her hair was fingerwaved. I set the wave in while her hair was wet with some styling gel. Once the hair was dry I used a mason pierson to brush it out for a softer look.

New Color for Fall
The Capelli Shop is introducing a new color line this fall. Lakme color and products! We're excited about the new line and think our clients will love it. The color makes the hair shiny and healthy. If you want to refresh your ends from the summer sun then try the lakme gloss. If you feel like your hair needs a little more moisture check out the master care oil or lotion treatment. Lakme also offers a line of one day treatments to help keep your frizz controled or add body to your limp tresses. Protecting your color everytime you shampoo is important! Lakme offers a variety of shampoo's and conditioners, which include straight, curl up, deep care, body maker, and gentle (sulfate free and safe to use with keratin treatments).

Let's go Retro
Just messing around with some new makeup and hair ideas. Chelsey's look is simple and elegant. The flower adds a more modern look to her hair. I used warm natural Bobbi Brown foundation on her skin. The smokey eye palate by MAC on her eyes. Gentle mineralized blush by MAC on her cheeks. Her lips are a combination of MAC Red lipstick and Grace by beauty addicts lip gloss. The look achieved is somewhat of a 1920's Flapper style.

More Hair
Recently when asking around to see what people are interested in reading in my blog I received a response I had never thought to blog about, MORE HAIR.
There are so many different product options out there for people with thinning, fine hair. First and foremost you need to figure out why your hair is thinning. Is it genetics, stress, hormonal, vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency, thyroid, or an illness? Once you have that part figured out it's on to the next step, figuring out which products work best for you.
One of the very best vitamins on the market to help hair growth I have found with my clients is BIOTIN http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biotin. It's a source of vitamin B. Biotin is available in both pill form and also found in some shampoos. There are several other vitamins on the market such as Densi-Recharge by Kerastase http://www.kerastase-usa.com/_en/_us/shop_products/specifique/index-specifique.htm. If simple vitamin supplementation isn't working it may be time to see your Dermatologist. The Dr. can provide both steroid injections to the thinning areas and also provide topical creams if needed.
If the issue is genetics we're fighting an uphill battle. There has been some promising progress with the development of Latisse http://www.latisse.com/?cid=ppc_gg_latisse. Woman are not recommended to use Propecia but it is safe to use Rogaine.
On a less scientific note we can have some fun with extensions to give you the thick hair you want. Here are some of the options when it comes to faux hair, starting on the inexpensive end.
Claire's and similar accessory shops sell extensions on combshttp://www.claires.com/store/goods/Teens/cat310184/Faux-Hair/p1000777/Dark-Blonde-Pony-Tail/?productId=p1000777&size=&color=BRUNETTE&quantity=1
Salley's Beauty Supply sells a variety of brands both synthetic and natural human hair extensions.
http://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-extensions/Hair16,default,sc.html?psortb1=name-sort&psortd1=1
http://www.hairuwear.com/ offers higher end extensions including Great Lengths. Great Lengths are by far the best extensions I've worked with. They are Keratin bonds so they don't damage the hair you already have, excellent quality hair and they look natural http://www.greatlengths.net/.
If you have any questions feel free to post them on the blog or contact me at The Capelli Shop http://www.thecapellishop.com/

Ralph Lauren Holiday Shoot for American Living
The past three days I had the opportunity to work with a great crew on the American Living Holiday shoot in New York. The location was beautiful as well as the models. It was fun seeing all the kids enjoying themselves. The ads should run in November and December in a handful of magazines. Assisting Johnny Caruso was interesting to say the least. He kept us laughing and I learned some new tricks of the trade.

Playing with Pigments
Using finest pigments by MAC is a versatile way to apply makeup. Pigments is an intense powdery blend of pure color that can be used as shadow, nail polish, lipstick.... and any other creative way you choose to use it. I had fun using the "copper sparkle" as a lip color. It seems to stay on very well and can be moistened up with some lip glass by MAC. There are a ton of other colors that would probably be more practical to wear for a night out. Just thought I'd share my fun new way to color lips...

Local Artist
I had the privilege tonight to see Johan Ruiz's first production. Local stylist's, barbers, makeup artist's, photographers, and artists collaborated in an event tonight to show off their amazing work and talents. Supporting one another in the industry is a necessity to not only learn but also to inspire our work. Check out some of Johan's work...

Extra Oil Anyone?
Ok so I have been researching a little bit on what to do if you have extra oily hair. Not saying that I agree with all of these "solutions" but some may be helpful. Discovery Health has a write up "11 Home Remedies for Oily Hair". I strongly disagree with putting dishwasher detergent in your shampoo, especially if you have color on your hair. I do however agree with getting a cleansing shampoo to use once a week. Davines makes a good one called SoLu (this shampoo may also lighten your color if you have a toner or single process). It seems as though cider vinegar is good for your hair in more ways than one, not only to get rid of the oil but also to restore elasticity. One more tip, if you do use conditioner start by applying to your ends first and work your way up to the root and avoid applying on the scalp. Here's the link that may help. Please comment if you find something that really works, or doesn't at all.

MM6 by Martin Margiela
I had the opportunity to assist Pasquale Ferrante from Ion Studios on the Martin Margiela and Opening Ceremonies presentation on Sunday. The presentation took place in the Victor and Rolf showroom, which was totally amazing! Everyone involved in the show were super friendly and it was a successful day.

Restoring the Elasticity to Damaged Hair
Your answer VINEGAR! That's right, vinegar. If your hair is damaged from too much bleaching and over-processing try using vinegar on your hair to get the elasticity back. Vinegar is also a good way to help with split ends. It restores your hair and gives it shine. It is also a good natural way to remove product build up from your hair. According to sources you should apply the vinegar to dry hair and let it sit for a couple hours then rinse. If you are only using it to give you some shine you can apply it in the shower after you shampoo, then rinse and condition.

Vintage Wedding
Mariel chose to go with a 1940's style for her wedding day. The 40's Era was considered the "Swing Era". Woman wore very slimming dresses and were very simplistic in their attire. Mariel pulled off the look with her perfectly coiffed hair and fabulous makeup. She finished off the look with a beautiful birdcage veil. What an alluring bride! Thank you Mariel for allowing me to be a part of your special day.
